Vaani Kapoor Defends Diljit Dosanjh Over Sardaar Ji 3: Months after her film Abir Gulaal was stalled post Pahalgam terror attack (April 22, 2025), actress Vaani Kapoor speaks to NDTV about the Diljit Dosanjh-Sardaar ji 3 controversy. When asked about the situation, Vaani says, "I don't want it to be a clickbait conversation".
Despite facing threats from various film bodies in India, Diljit Dosanjh released Sardaar Ji 3 overseas on June 27. As one of the producers of the film, Diljit could take a call on his film, whereas Vaani's Abir Gulaal was caught in the crosshairs. When we asked Vaani about Diljit's decision to release Sardaar Ji 3 globally, she says, "I am assuming his film was shot before the attack and I am assuming as a producer his money must have been stuck.

She further defended Diljit’s decision and said, "I don't think he was meaning to disrespect the nation. He is a global star... He is looked up to globally. He has taken measures as per whatever he thought was suitable to him. But I don't think any laws have been broken, right?"
After the Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025 and Operation Sindoor, Pakistani artistes were banned from working in India. But Diljit released the trailer of his much awaited film Sardaar Ji 3 which had Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in a key role. So the makers decided to release the film only overseas and not in India.

Diljit's decision was met with calls for a ban on his future projects in India by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees. Many celebrities including Mika Singh, Abhijeet Bhattacharya and others slammed Diljit for working with a Pakistani actor. The makers and Diljit clarified that the film was shot long before the relations between the two countries soured and went ahead with the overseas release on June 27. The film turned out to be a huge success and became the highest grossing Punjabi film of the year, without releasing in India, earning over 50 crore internationally.
Vaani was last seen in Mandala Murders with Shriya Pilgaonkar and Surveen Chawla. She will be next seen in Navjot Gulati’s Badtameez Gill with Aparshakti Khurana, Paresh Rawal, Sheeba Chaddha, Richard Bhakti Klein and Monica Chaudhary. Release date not announced.
