Usha Vance Snubbed by Angry Greenlanders During High-Profile Visit: U.S. Vice-President JD Vance, wife Usha Vance, and other prominent representatives of the United States visited American soldiers on Pituffik Space Base on this costly, strategically critical island called Greenland. Ultimately, this itinerary was withdrawn after loud protests from Greenlanders and Danes not consulted on the issue at all. According to a report by Danish TV 2, US officials have been touring the Danish-controlled territory looking for locals who wanted to receive a visit from the Second Lady. What was the response of Greenlanders? No, thank you.
Amid the heated arguments between Vance and his wife about the Greenland trip, it has been reported that before Usha Vance's visit, US officials literally knocked on every door in Greenland to find people who wanted to see her. But the response was as frigid as the weather that made JD Vance grumpy when he arrived finally on the island. Indeed, no citizen wished to mingle with the Second Lady's event: "No, thank you."
“I have to say that it is unacceptable pressure being placed on Greenland and Denmark in this situation. And it is pressure that we will resist,” Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told Danish broadcasters DR and TV2 on Tuesday. “You cannot make a private visit with official representatives from another country, when the acting Greenlandic government has made it very clear that they do not want a visit at this time."

Row over Usha Vance's Greenland trip
Although Usha Vance was initially intended to fly to Greenland alone, she was accompanied by JD Vance. Not only did Greenland react vigorously to the announcement of Usha's trip, but so did Denmark, with the latter claiming that noone invited Usha Vance to Greenland, the island that Donald Trump wants to capture. Amid rising tempers, JD Vance announced that he would accompany Usha on the trip.
“There was so much excitement around Usha’s visit to Greenland this Friday, that I decided that I didn’t want her to have all that fun by herself, and so I’m going to join her,” Vance said in a video posted to X.
And this was not the only thing that residents were doing to spite the Second Lady of the United States before her high-profile visit to the island. Tupilak Travel, a travel agency based in Greenland's capital city, Nuuk, was initially willing to host Usha Vance but pulled out on Thursday, as the Independent reports. In a Facebook post, the company said that the US's consulate contacted it and asked if it wishes the visit, to which the company initially said would like, but later backed out.
“After closer consideration, however, we have now informed the consulate that we do not want her visit, as we cannot accept the underlying agenda and will not be part of the press show that, quite, of course, comes with it. No thanks to nice visit… Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders," the company said. This lesson in denial comes from a vice president announcing that he would go along with his wife on the trip to Greenland on the same day.
What happened in Greenland?
JD Vance took three hours of tour in a military base of the United States located in Greenland. He stated Washington would not have to use force in order to take Greenland and that President Trump would just be able to make a deal given how Denmark treated Greenland. Denmark has "underinvested" in the security of Greenland, Vance said and exclaimed that Denmark must change its approach as President Donald Trump pushes to take over the Danish territory.
“Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland,” Vance said. “You have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people. That has to change.”
With that, he said that the U.S. "has no otherwise" for taking a significant position for the security of Greenland, encouraging a push in Greenland for independence from Denmark.
“I think that they ultimately will partner with the United States,” Vance said. “We could make them much more secure. We could do a lot more protection. And I think they’d fare a lot better economically as well.”

This reaction by membe me bers of Greenland's parliament has not found favor with most residents, with anger bursting over the aforementioned U. S. administration efforts to annex the vast Arctic island. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen pushed back on Vance's claim that Denmark isn't doing enough for defense in the Arctic, calling her country "a good and strong ally."
“Because we think the people of Greenland are rational and good, we think we’re going to have to cut a deal, Donald Trump style, to ensure the security of this territory but also the United States of America,” Vance said furthermore, the people of Greenland have been granted the autonomy to determine their own future.
At the same time, Trump told reporters in Washington that the U.S. "needs Greenland for international security."
On the way into Vance's arrival, Trump alluded to increasingly active Chinese and Russian interests in the Arctic with its newly opening sea lanes due to climate change.
“Greenland’s very important for the peace of the world,” Trump said. “And I think Denmark understands, and I think the European Union understands it. And if they don’t, we’re going to have to explain it to them.”
