Spying for Pakistan: The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested a man suspected of spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency and smuggling goods across the India-Pakistan border.
The suspect, identified as Shehzad from Tanda in Rampur district, was tracked and arrested in Moradabad, The Indian Express reported.
Police investigations revealed that Shehzad had been secretly crossing the border for several years, while smuggling cosmetics, clothes, spices, and other items. He also allegedly worked as an ISI agent, maintaining regular contact with their operatives and sharing sensitive information related to India’s security, the report said.

According to the STF, Shahzad’s activities went beyond espionage. He was also deeply involved in cross-border smuggling operations, dealing in goods like cosmetics, clothes, and spices. These smuggling routes allegedly served dual purposes — generating revenue and facilitating covert movement of individuals linked to ISI.
The report also suggests Shahzad was instrumental in managing ISI’s ground operations in India. He allegedly transferred funds to other Pakistani agents operating within the country and helped send individuals from Uttar Pradesh to Pakistan under the pretense of smuggling. These trips, facilitated with help from ISI agents, involved visas and legal travel documents — with the real goal of recruiting operatives for Pakistani intelligence.
Further alarming revelations include Shahzad’s alleged role in procuring Indian SIM cards for ISI agents, enhancing their ability to operate undetected on Indian soil.

The police said that during further investigation, they found that Shehzad allegedly gave money to agents living in India on orders from Pakistan’s ISI. He is also allegedly involved in recruiting people from Rampur and other parts of Uttar Pradesh, sending them to Pakistan by pretending it was for smuggling so they could work for ISI.
The police said ISI agents handled their visas and travel papers, and also claimed that Shehzad even gave Indian SIM cards to ISI operatives to help them spy on India.
