UNSC will meet in Mumbai and New Delhi for two days to deal with the new challenges of terrorism

India's tenure as a non-permanent member in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is now only 66 days left, but India is preparing to make full use of this time. In this sequence, the special meeting of the Committee against Terrorism of the UNSC held in India on 28 and 29 October will be of great importance. In addition to all five permanent members of the UNSC, representatives of 15 non-permanent members will participate in the meeting.

For the first time in India, such a special meeting of the UNSC is being held, in which discussions will be held on creating a global strategy for the use of new technology-internet media, technology-based payment systems, drones and other equipment by terrorist organizations. . Britain's Secretary of State James Cleverley will also participate in the meeting. This will be the first foreign visit by a senior minister of his government after Rishi Sunak became the Prime Minister of Britain. In India, it is being seen from the UK side as a way to bring the vehicle of bilateral relations back on track.

Giving information about the meeting of the Committee against Terrorism (CTC) constituted under the UNSC, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Sanjay Verma said that apart from the representatives of the five permanent countries, representatives of 15 non-permanent members will also participate in the meeting of the committee. The first day's meeting will be held on October 28 at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, which was targeted by terrorists in 2008. This will be followed by a special meeting in New Delhi on October 29, 2022. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will represent the Indian contingent at the meetings on both the days. Gabon, Ghana, UAE, Albania and the UK will be represented by the Foreign Minister or Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
