Uniform Civil Code: BJP MP introduced Uniform Civil Code Bill in Rajya Sabha
Political tussle has been going on in the country for a long time on this issue. In this bill, it has been demanded that a National Inspection should be set up to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the country.

BJP MP Kirori Lal Meena introduced the 'Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2020 in India' in the Rajya Sabha on Friday amid heavy uproar. Which was strongly opposed by the opposition members. Voting took place after the introduction of the bill, in whose favor 63 votes were cast, while 23 votes were cast in the opposition. The BJP made this proposal with the aim of taking forward the promise of implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the country.

At present, the personal laws of different communities are governed by their religious scriptures. The code comes under Article 44 of the Constitution, which states that it shall endeavor to secure for citizens a Uniform Civil Code throughout the territory of India. Notably, in the BJP's 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto, the party promised implementation of the UCC if voted to power. The winter session of the Parliament has started from December 7 and it will have 17 working days. As per the schedule notified by the government, a total of 16 new bills have been planned to be introduced during the session.
SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav said, 'The opposition in Rajya Sabha today strongly opposed the Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2020 in India, it is unconstitutional. Educational, cultural, religious rights of minorities come under fundamental rights as per the constitution.
