Twitter's blue tick blues - Who lost the blue tick & those who kept it
Twitter first introduced the blue tick system in 2009 to help users identify whether the accounts of celebrities, politicians, companies and brands, news organizations are genuine, and not fake or parodies. Earlier the company did not charge any fee for verification.

Celebs Blue Ticks: Micro-blogging site Twitter on Thursday removed the legacy verified blue ticks from all accounts. Apart from many Bollywood celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, blue ticks have been removed from verified Twitter accounts of politicians including Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi.
Blue tick has also been removed from the account of Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli. Please tell that now the blue tick is visible only on those accounts, which are paying for it. Twitter Blue has been priced at Rs 900 per month for mobile and Rs 650 for the web version in India.
Elon Musk’s announcement
Twitter owner Elon Musk had told a few days ago that on April 20, the blue tick will be removed from such accounts which have not paid for it. He had said that if blue tick is required on the verified account then subscription will have to be taken.
