Tumko Meri Kasam Review: Even Anupam Kher’s Brilliance Can’t Save This Film

Tumko Meri Kasam Review: There are medical dramas, then there are legal dramas; there are biopics; and then there is Tumko Meri Kasam, which is all of this and none of the above. I would have gone Jack of all trades, but that doesn't really do justice to this movie because it too is far highly confusing.

What is Tumko Meri Kasam about

But the story actually is about Dr. Ajay Murdia (Anupam Kher), founder of Indira IVF, with his struggle to set it up with his wife Indira (Adah Sharma). The film alternates between "back then" and "now," in which he gets caught up in a legal case. As such, it tests patience, with the first hour stretching out like an eternity.

As Vikram Bhatt's writing and direction has been too focused on drawing out the love story between Jay and Indira, it feels like a slog. The conversations between Ajay and Indira are long and not really exciting. Even Kuldip Mehan's editing seems lazy, with a two-hour-and-thirty-minute film.

It picks up some pace in the last hour, and by then, of course, the audience is exhausted. The only redeeming quality in it will be Anupam Kher, for he brings out the magic with the character. At this stage, such characters can very well be played by this man even in his sleep now. Adah Sharma and Ishwak Singh, who are the younger versions of Ajay and Indira, also have their moments, but these are spoiled by the script, especially in crucial scenes where Adah falls flat.

Besides this, there is a competent supporting cast - included among them Meherrzan B Mazda as the antagonist and Esha Deol as a lawyer - who have really less important roles to play in the storyline. There is one moment in the climax when Anupam's character represents himself in court and puts forth an important argument. I couldn't help but wonder what is it then that her character is needed for, if her client has to step up for himself.

To sum it up

Overall, Tumko Meri Kasam has a wafer-thin plot, failing to engage at all. It is boring. It promises but does not deliver. Even die-hard Anupam fans would find themselves glancing at their watches. Kasam se.
