Trump Warns Elon Musk: President Trump has warned Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk that he may have to “close up shop” and move back to South Africa if there are no EV subsidies.
Trump's warning on his Truth Social platform late on Tuesday (US time) came amid the feud between him and Musk over the 'One Big Beautiful Bill'.
Virtually issuing a deportation warning, Trump took to Truth Social to hit out at his former advisor, saying, “Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one. Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!" he added further.

Elon Musk and Trump had a public falling out in early June when Musk called Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” budget and spending legislation a “disgusting abomination” because of the ballooning deficit and cuts to EV tax credits.
More recently, Musk has been taking shots at the Trump administration, calling the bill “utterly insane”. He’s also floated the idea of starting a third party because Americans are unhappy with Republicans and Democrats.
This comes hours after Elon Musk blasted the US Congress over the “Big Beautiful Bill” that raises the US debt ceiling by a record $5 trillion.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Musk called the bill “insane” and said the lawmakers are failing the American people.
"It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS, that we live in a one-party country - the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” Musk wrote in a post. “Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people," he added.
