Trump Signs Landmark “Big Beautiful Bill”: After weeks of badgering Republicans to get on board with his domestic mega-bill — despite concerns about Medicaid cuts, deficit expansion, and political landmines — Trump signed the thing into law on the White House South Lawn on Friday afternoon.
He’s turned the traditional July 4 picnic into a celebration of the country’s independence and of his win in Congress, and is using the day’s pomp to salute the biggest legislative victory of his second term. There was a bomber jet flyover – a nod to the military’s recent strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities – and there will be a fireworks display on the National Mall later.
"That's a good one," he said, as he signed the document with a Sharpie marker, flanked by scores of Republican lawmakers who had fallen into line to support the "One Big Beautiful Bill."

“There could be no better birthday present for America than the phenomenal victory we achieved just hours ago, when Congress passed the one big beautiful bill to make America great again,” Trump said.
The Big Beautiful Bill extends Trump’s 2017 multitrillion-dollar tax cuts and cuts Medicaid and food stamps by $1.2 trillion. It increases immigration enforcement significantly.
Congress’s nonpartisan scorekeeper says nearly 12 million more people will lose health insurance under the law.
After days of hemming and hawing and negotiating, and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries breaking the record for the longest speech on the House floor, the House passed the bill Thursday afternoon, 218-214. Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick and Thomas Massie voted against the bill, and no Democrats voted for it. GOP leadership and the White House talked to Republican holdouts for hours on Thursday morning.

A senior Trump White House official told reporters on a call Thursday that the president was “deeply” involved in the process of the bill and made “late-night phone calls” to move the bill through Congress. Vice President JD Vance was also heavily involved, the official said.
Mr. Trump also honored the military members involved in the US strikes against some of Iran’s nuclear facilities last month at Friday’s event.
Meanwhile, the Republicans say the bill is necessary because there will be a massive tax increase after December when the tax breaks from Trump’s first term expire. The bill has about $4.5 trillion in tax cuts.
The bill is the latest in a string of big wins for Trump, including a Supreme Court ruling last week that limited federal judges from blocking his policies, and the US air strikes that led to a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
