Trump Dials Putin to defuse the War in Ukraine: US President-elect Donald Trump urged Russian President Vladimir Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine, the Washington Post reported. He made the remarks during a telephone call from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Thursday, just days after his emphatic election victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
In the conversation, it appears that Trump referenced the major deployment of US troops throughout Europe to Putin and expressed interest in further talks toward resolution of the Ukrainian war, the Post reported.
Several sources unnamed reported to the Post that Trump focused on the end of the conflict and signalled readiness for further talks with Moscow over the issue.
The telephone conversation followed a Wednesday call by Trump with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which involved tech mogul Elon Musk.

Zelensky labelled the call "excellent," stating he would be optimistic about continued dialogue and cooperation with the next administration.
Over two and a half years, this Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to be a pivotal point in global geopolitics.
Both sides in the war have been acting recently in ways that could be seen as tentative attempts to gain an edge before a negotiated settlement begins, whether by Ukraine's seizure of a segment of Russian territory and Moscow's march toward Ukraine.
This weekend saw the most extensive drone attacks yet by both sides.
Overnight, Russia fired 145 drones at Ukraine, Zelensky said, while Russia claimed it had shot down 34 Ukrainian drones aimed at Moscow on Sunday.
An end to the nearly three-year-old Ukraine conflict is seen to arrive with Trump's election that seeks a quick stop to the war and challenges the multi-billion-dollar aid to Kyiv by Washington.
The outgoing Democratic administration of President Joe Biden confirmed it would send all the aid it could to Ukraine before Trump's inauguration on January 20.
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan has clearly made it known on Sunday that he is an indication in saying President Joe Biden "is committed to Ukraine, and there needs to be continued US support until his last day in office." "We aim to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position on the battlefield," Sullivan said in an interview with 'Face the Nation'
