Trump Advocates States Rights on Abortion Law, Rejects National Ban
As well as supporting in-vitro fertilization, Trump endorsed exceptions for cases of rape, incest, and protecting the mother's life.

Trump Advocates States Rights on Abortion Law: US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reiterated that US laws should determine abortion laws in 2024.
As well as supporting in-vitro fertilization, Trump endorsed exceptions for cases of rape, incest, and protecting the mother's life.
He said he supports exceptions for rape, incest, and protecting the life of the mother in a video posted on his social media platform.
He didn't say he'd ban abortion if he returned to the White House, which might galvanize voters.
“Many people have asked me what my position is on abortion and abortion rights,” Trump said in the video posted on his Truth Social site. “My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both. And whatever they decide must be the law of the land — in this case, the law of the state.”
Trump didn't endorse a national abortion cutoff that Democrats would have used as a campaign tool ahead of the November election, declining to say when abortion should be banned.
Nonetheless, his support for the patchwork approach leaves him vulnerable to being associated with the strictest state legislation, which President Joe Biden and his reelection campaign are already working on.
In an apparent reference to his conservative high court picks, Trump claimed he was responsible for the 2022 Supreme Court decision ending a federal right to the procedure.
Trump finally revealed his stance on abortion on Monday, ending months of uncertainty.
His social media platform said he'd talk about "abortion and abortion rights."

Due to Trump's refusal to specify a timeline for a potential ban during pregnancy, Republican-led states have implemented a surge of new restrictions since Roe v Wade was overturned in 2022.
The lack of further action by Trump disappointed anti-abortion activists.
However, Trump expressed a preference for state legislation rather than federal legislation to deal with the abortion issue, despite acknowledging its significance. He has positioned himself as a staunch defender of pro-life values by appointing Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v Wade throughout his campaign.
Some Republicans, however, have been criticized for their rigid stance on abortion, particularly for not allowing exceptions for rape, incest, or when the life of the pregnant woman is at risk.
As he said in the video, he was "proudly the person responsible for ending" Roe v. Wade and thanked the conservative justices who overturned it.
As a way to differentiate themselves from Trump, Democrats and Joe Biden's campaign have actively focused on abortion. Public opinion polls have indicated that a majority of Americans support legal abortions in the early stages of pregnancy, with approximately half supporting abortions up to 15 weeks.
Trump's announcement on abortion is poised to impact the ongoing national conversation and legislative actions regarding reproductive rights.
