After the ongoing political crisis in the Congress in Uttarakhand was resolved, the internal battle in the ruling BJP came to the fore late on Friday evening. Harak Singh Rawat, a senior minister in the government and a strong leader of the state, suddenly resigned from the post in the evening. Umesh Sharma Kau, a close aide of Harak Singh and MLA from Dehradun's Raipur Assembly seat, is also reported to have submitted his resignation.
According to media reports, Rawat got angry and asked to resign in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and came out. However, it could not be confirmed whether he has submitted his resignation in writing or not.
Full details of the developments inside the meeting could not be found. But sources say that he had proposed to set up a medical college in Kotdwar during the meeting, which was rejected. Harak Singh has been demanding this medical college from the government for a long time.
Sources close to Harak Singh say that he had been in tension with the party leadership for some time over several issues. But he is more saddened by the rejection of the proposal in the meeting. After resigning, he told the media that I have been made like a beggar within the party. So I can't work with them anymore.
