Tripura CM receives 300kg mangoes from Bangladesh PM, as a goodwill gesture
Earlier, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina presented 2,600 kg of mangoes to President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

On Monday, boxes containing Haribhanga mangoes, grown specifically in Bangladesh's Rangpur region, landed in Agartala as a gesture of goodwill from Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. On behalf of Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh presented the CM with a gift of 300 kg of mangoes.
Between India and Bangladesh, there are numerous patterns of cordial relations. These two countries have traditionally lent each other a helping hand.
In fact, it is said that Haribhanga mangoes are spherical in shape, black in colour, and plump, weighing 200 to 400 g on average.
“The mangoes are a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Tripura Chief Minister. I'm hoping that the sweet mangoes will sweeten the two countries' ties. “We have sent 300 kg of the delicious Haribhanga mangoes grown only in Bangladesh's Rangpur district,” said Mohammad Jobayed Hosen, Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Agartala.
Appreciating Sheikh Hasina for the gesture, Biplab Deb stated that he will bring her a Kew variety of pineapples and wished that the India-Bangladesh relationship under PM Modi's leadership "remains intact."
“On behalf of my family and the people of Bangladesh, I thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the sweet gift. We are preparing to give our world-famous pineapples — the Queen Pineapple and Kew variety — to Bangladesh's Prime Minister. “I hope and pray that the Prime Minister's capable leadership will assist the people of Bangladesh in overcoming the pandemic and emerging as an even stronger and more sophisticated nation,” says Biplab Kumar Deb.
On Sunday, Sheikh Hasina gifted 2,600 kg of mangoes to President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Tripura and Bangladesh have a unique history because they share an 800-kilometre border. According to reports, Bangladesh intends to deliver truckloads of mangoes to the Northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.
Mango diplomacy is a subcontinent political tactic, albeit it is most common between India and Pakistan. Former Pakistani presidents Zia-ul-Haq and Pervez Musharraf were among those who gave mangoes to the Indian government.
