Tremors were felt in many districts of Nepal, Bihar in the morning due to earthquake of 6 magnitude on Richter scale.
The epicenter of the earthquake in eastern Nepal was at 27.14 degree north latitude and 86.67 degree east longitude at a depth of 10 km. There is no report of any damage or casualties due to the earthquake so far.
An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 on the Richter scale struck Nepal at 8.13 am on Sunday. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC), the earthquake occurred around Martim Birta in Khotang district, 147 km east of Kathmandu, Nepal. The epicenter of the earthquake in eastern Nepal was at 27.14 degree north latitude and 86.67 degree east longitude at a depth of 10 km. There is no report of any damage or casualties due to the earthquake so far.
The tremors of the Nepal earthquake were also felt in some parts of Bihar. National Center for Seismology gave this information. As per initial reports, tremors were felt in Bihar's Katihar, Munger, Madhepura and Begusarai. There were no reports of any casualties or damage to property due to the quake, officials said.
Kathmandu's international airport was closed after this earthquake. The earthquake also caused an avalanche on Mount Everest in which 22 people died. This was followed by a major aftershock on 12 May 2015. The epicenter of this earthquake was near the Chinese border between Kathmandu and Mount Everest. It was estimated that more than 200 people were killed and more than 2,500 were injured in this earthquake.
In 1934, Nepal had to face the worst earthquake. Its intensity was measured at 8.0 on the Richter scale. This disaster destroyed the cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan.
