The Health Department in Bihar has once again banned the production, storage, transportation, sale and display of all types of gutkha and pan masala made from tobacco.
Pan masala and gutkha made from tobacco have been banned for a complete year. After the instructions of Additional Chief Secretary cum State Food Safety Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit, an order in this regard was issued. Legal action will be taken against those who violate the ban.
In the order issued by the Health Department, it has been said that selling tobacco and nicotine mixed with gutkha and pan masala is injurious to health. Citing the September 2016 order of the Supreme Court, it has been said that there will be a complete ban on the sale of such food items. Gutkha and pan masala come under the category of food items. Therefore, the sale of such substances has been banned in the state.
