The TIME magazine’s new international cover reads: "I cannot be intimidated. I cannot be bought." The women leading India's farmers' protests.
TIME Magazine's latest cover features a group of 20 women at Tikri border on the outskirts of Delhi.
The current issue carries their picture on its cover.
The TIME magazine’s new international cover reads: "I cannot be intimidated. I cannot be bought." - slogans of the women leading India's farmers' protests. The cover picture shoot some of the women farmers from the protests raising slogans while carrying their young children in their arms. The photograph also includes several old women protesters who stayed there despite being asked to move from the site, for months at the Delhi border. These group of farmers have emerged as leaders during the ongoing protests against the new agricultural laws in the country. The story talks about how the Supreme Court suggested that women and the aged leave the protest for their safety, and these women refused to deny their duties as farmers. Its cursory glimpse gives an idea of emerging women's role in farmers’ agitation as well as the farmers’ protest against new farm laws, unacceptable to them.
Over three months have passed and the farmers have refused to leave the site, many dying and falling sick on the site. They say that the new farm laws are snatching their rights to sell their produce at their own price, initiating in a way, the old system leading to the same sahukaar-lendar, landless labours era.
The government, though, has tried to pacify them saying, they have been misinformed about this. The laws will help them, not dis-adventurous to them at all.
TIME Magazine had earlier done a cover feature on Shaheen Bagh protest too, Bilquis Dadi and other thousands of local females who led the women against CAA, NPR, and NRC –the citizenship Amendment Act.
This is to be noted that Indian issues are now internationally spoken about now, especially minority issues and those on humanitarian topics. The issue has drawn quite an attention among the neo-readers.For breaking news and live news updates, like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
