The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government renamed Islam Nagar near Bhopal as Jagdishpur.

The Madhya Pradesh government has changed the name of the historic Islam Nagar located near the state capital Bhopal to Jagdishpur. Jagdishpur was the earlier name of this area. An official gave this information on Thursday. A gazette notification announcing the name change was issued on Wednesday after approval from the central government. Expressing anger over this, the opposition Congress said that such acts are being done by the state's Bharatiya Janata Party government to divert people's attention from corruption and lack of development.

Islam Nagar was the capital of the princely state of Bhopal established by the Afghan-Mughal ruler Dost Mohammad Khan. It may be known that last year, the BJP government of Madhya Pradesh renamed Habibganj railway station as Rani Kamlapati railway station after the name of the famous Gond queen, while the name of Hoshangabad district, about 80 km from Bhopal, was changed to Narmadapuram. State Congress media wing president KK Mishra attacked this trend of renaming areas that belonged to the Mughals, saying, "Since corruption along with lack of development has become the hallmark of the BJP, people's To divert attention, it is indulging in name-changing strategy.

However, BJP spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi defended the move, saying it was aimed at re-establishing in the minds of people those heroic personalities who have been systematically ignored in history as part of a larger conspiracy. That after bringing out the 'real names' in this way, the 'symbols of colonialism' are automatically erased from the minds of the people. The Central Government has recently changed the name of the Mughal Garden of Rashtrapati Bhavan to "Amrit Udyan", which was criticized by some opposition parties.
