A report has claimed that the Indian Defense Ministry is the world's largest employer with 29.2 lakh people. This includes combined active service personnel, reserve soldiers and civilian employees.

According to the report of Germany-based private organization Statista, the Indian Defense Ministry is also included in the world's largest employer. According to a report released by Statista Infographic on Employers with the Largest Workforce Worldwide in 2022, the US Defense Department is the second largest employer after the Indian Defense Ministry. The US Department of Defense employs 2.91 lakh people.

The Hamburg-based firm, which specializes in market and consumer data, said China's People's Liberation Army, which does not include civilian positions, employs about 2.5 million people. The report further states that the Central Military Commission, the Chinese equivalent of the US Department of Defense, may employ 6.8 million people. However, these figures are not considered reliable enough to be included in this list.

According to the report, no company in the world has more employees than Walmart. Quoting Statista, "The latest information from the US retail giant puts the figure at a massive 2.3 million. Let's say Amazon is in second place with 1.6 million workforce."

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the five biggest spenders in 2021 were the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom and Russia. US military spending in 2021 was 80 million, while China, the world's second largest spender, allocated an estimated 2093 million to its military. Meanwhile, the SIPRI report states that India's military expenditure of 766 million is third in the world.
