Teesta Setalvad's bail plea will be heard in Supreme Court today, Gujarat government has protested
Teesta has been arrested for allegedly creating evidence to implicate innocent people in the 2002 Gujarat riots. On Teesta's application, a bench headed by Justice UU Lalit had issued a notice to the state government seeking its response. Earlier Teesta had filed an application in the Gujarat High Court.

Hearing in the bail case of Teesta Setalvad, who is in jail in Gujarat riots case, will be heard in the Supreme Court today. However, the Gujarat government has opposed Teesta's bail by filing an affidavit in the court. The affidavit said that Teesta had collected fake evidence at the behest of politicians and received money for this work.
In the affidavit filed by the Gujarat government, it has been said that the investigation has revealed that prima facie there is sufficient evidence against Teesta and she collected forged documents and evidence during the Gujarat riots. Scrutiny has revealed that the contents and the material contained in the FIR are solid. The government has told the Supreme Court that Teesta, along with other accused, committed several criminal acts and was involved in crimes. Setalvad has hatched a conspiracy in connivance with the leaders of political parties and this is proved by the statements of the witnesses.

Earlier on July 30, the sessions court had refused bail to Teesta Setalvad and former Director General of Police (DGP) RB Sreekumar. Additional Chief Justice DD Thakkar refused to grant relief to the two, saying the object of the accused was to "destabilise" the Gujarat government and bring disrepute to the state. Former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, the third accused in the case, did not apply for bail. Bhatt was already in jail in another case when he was arrested.
