Teen Loses Rs. 2 Lakh in Shocking Online Fraud: Another shocking cybercrime has claimed the life of a teenager after his father's money was unwittingly lost while playing with his mother's phone.

According to reports, a teenager from Nalasopara, Mumbai took extreme measures to conceal the fact he had fallen victim to a cyber fraud.

As he was playing with his mother's smartphone, the 18-year-old might have clicked on a fake link in the message he was reading. A bank SMS confirming the withdrawal of funds confirmed that as much as Rs. 2 lakh vanished from his father's bank account.

Although his parents weren't aware of this transaction, the teenager reportedly ingested pesticide knowing they would eventually learn of the huge loss. He was taken to the hospital when his mother noticed froth emanating from his mouth. However, he couldn't be saved.

Police are investigating the possibility of a cyber fraud.

The teenager was duped out of Rs. 2 lakh during an online fraud last Wednesday, according to the ToI.

How to take measures to avoid fraud

• You should avoid online banking and financial transactions on public Wi-Fi networks because hackers could easily intercept your transactions. Phishing is when cybercriminals trick users into sharing their passwords.
• Keep your operating system, antivirus software, and banking app up to date to avoid getting hacked. Fake links can download malware and steal your financial information.
• Never send passwords, PINs, or account numbers via email, phone, or text.
• Make sure your operating system, antivirus software, and banking apps are up-to-date.
