The Tata group will buy 250 aircraft from Airbus in the world's biggest aviation deal. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Tuesday said Air India will acquire 250 aircraft, including 40 widebody aircraft, from Airbus. The Tata Group-owned airline will buy 40 wide-body A350 planes and 210 narrow-body aircraft. Wide-body aircraft will be used for longer distance air travel.
In a program Tata has signed an agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of the aircraft. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron were also part of the virtual event. Tata group had acquired Air India in January last year. In a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ratan Tata, French President Emmanuel Macron and other leaders, Airbus Chief Executive Guillaume Faury said it was a historic moment.

Air India was looking for a strong fleet of aircraft to strengthen its domestic and international aircraft network. Soon after the airline's disinvestment, CEO Campbell announced in his speech that the airline would soon close a deal. On the occasion of its first anniversary on January 27 this year, Air India said that the airline will establish itself as the best airline in the world in the next five years.
