Tarn Taran Civil Hospital SMO Caught Accepting ₹50,000 Bribe: The senior medical officer (SMO) at Tarn Taran civil hospital was arrested on Wednesday for alleged bribery.
According to the Punjab vigilance bureau, Dharambir Singh, who runs a canteen on the hospital grounds, lodged a complaint.
For several months, Dharambir claimed that the SMO harassed him on the basis of cleanliness, food quality, etc. Eventually, he allegedly threatened to terminate Dharambir's contract if he failed to pay him $50,000.
A trap was laid by the vigilance bureau and the accused was caught red-handed accepting a bribe, in the presence of two witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the Amritsar range VB police station. The accused SMO will appear in court on Thursday.
