Tahawwur Rana’s NIA Interrogation Begins: Focus on 26/11 Mumbai Attack Conspiracy
The interrogation of 26/11 plot accused Tahawwur Rana has begun at the NIA headquarters. According to sources, the initial round of questioning will focus on identifying Rana's handler in Pakistan. His profiling is also underway to determine who was funding him, the sleeper cells he was connected to, his business partners, and the individuals in India who received funds from him. Investigators will also probe who assisted David Headley in India and who received money for it.

Tahawwur Rana’s NIA Interrogation Begins: The interrogation of 26/11 plot accused Tahawwur Rana has begun at the NIA headquarters. According to sources, the initial round of questioning will focus on identifying Rana's handler in Pakistan. His profiling is also underway to determine who was funding him, the sleeper cells he was connected to, his business partners, and the individuals in India who received funds from him. Investigators will also probe who assisted David Headley in India and who received money for it.
Officials are also trying to find out why Sajid Mir came to India under the pretext of watching a cricket match and whether anyone accompanied Rana to the locations for which he allegedly provided video footage to the Pakistani army.
According to NIA sources, terror accused Tahawwur Rana was taken out of the lockup at the NIA headquarters and brought to the interrogation room for questioning. He was escorted under tight security by NIA investigators and CISF personnel stationed at the facility.

A statement by the US Department of Justice said that the 26/11 plotter Tahawwur Rana will stand trial in India on 10 criminal charges.
“Criminal charges stemming from his alleged role in the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Rana, 64, is charged in India with numerous offenses, including conspiracy, murder, commission of a terrorist act, and forgery, related to his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks committed by Laskhar-e-Tayyiba (LeT),” the statement said.
According to NIA sources, Tahawwur Rana has been lodged in a high-security cell on the ground floor of the agency's headquarters. The 14x14 cell is equipped with CCTV cameras and has digital multi-layer security, including round-the-clock guards. Only 12 top NIA officers are permitted access to this cell. Rana has been provided with basic amenities including a bed, bathroom, and food within the same space.
His movement within the headquarters is being kept to a minimum, and the interrogation, which begins today, will be conducted under the watch of two recording cameras. Breaks will be provided during the questioning. Eight other investigative agencies have also requested permission to question him.
The interrogation will be led by DIG Jaya Roy, who played a key role in bringing Rana from the US to India. A daily report of the proceedings will be sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The initial focus of the questioning will be on profiling Rana, identifying his handler in Pakistan, and tracing the source of his funding.
