Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi has given his approval. Punjab's acting DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay and Ferozepur SSP Harmandeep Hans were removed on Saturday in connection with the lapse in the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 5.
Before the announcement of assembly elections in 5 states including Punjab, 1987 batch IPS officer VK Bhavra has been appointed as the new DGP of Punjab. Narinder Bhargava has been made Ferozepur SSP. State Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi stamped these names on Saturday.
Punjab's acting DGP and Ferozepur SSP may be blamed for the major lapse in the security of the Prime Minister. Bhaskar had told that the central government will not take direct action against these officers, but can demand the dismissal of the DGP from the state government or can issue a decree to call them to Delhi. Everything will happen only with the consent of the state government.
