India has to play the 5th Test against England from July 1, and just before that, Team India has suffered a major setback. Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 after a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday.
The BCCI tweeted that the captain is currently quarantined at the team hotel, where he is under the care of doctors. The BCCI on Sunday morning confirmed that Rohit Sharma had undergone a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) of Covid on Saturday, in which he has been found infected. Rohit took part in India's warm-up match against Leicestershire XI at Uptonsteel County Ground, with the 35-year-old scoring 25 runs in the opening innings of the match on Thursday.
Although Rohit was not there during India's second innings on Saturday, the BCCI has also confirmed that the captain was not in good health, which prompted him to undergo a COVID test. The BCCI also gave this information through a tweet on Sunday. Last year (2021), the fifth and final Test of the series at Edgbaston was canceled due to the Covid outbreak, which is scheduled to start from July 1. The Indian team is 2-1 ahead in the series and the team can claim the first Test series win in England by winning the fifth match.
