Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met women boxers who brought laurels to the country in the Women's World Boxing Championships. Boxers Nikhat Zareen, Manisha Maun and Parveen Hooda have brought laurels to the country by winning medals in the championship. Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao announced Rs 2 crore each to Nikhat Zareen for winning the gold medal in the championship and Esha Singh, the gold medalist in the ISSF Junior World Cup.
Besides Nikhat, women's World Boxing Championship bronze medalists Manisha Maun and Parveen Hooda called on the Prime Minister. Sharing the experience of meeting the Prime Minister, Nikhat tweeted that it is a matter of great honor for her.
Significantly, Nikhat dominated the final match of the championship by winning 5-0. Living up to the expectations, Nikhat defeated Jitpong Jutamas of Thailand in the 52kg finals 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28. Prior to Nikhat, Mary Kom (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2018), Sarita Devi (2006), Jenny RL (2006) and Lekha KC (2006) won gold medals at the World Boxing Championships.
Manisha (57kg) and Parveen (63kg) won bronze medals in the championship and the Indian contingent ended its campaign with three medals in the world's biggest boxing event. 310 boxers from 73 countries participated in this championship. This year's boxing event also marks the 20th anniversary of the Women's World Championships.
