Sonam Raghuvanshi Held in UP for Killing Husband in Meghalaya: 1200 Km Crime Trail

Honeymoon Tragedy: Sonam Raghuvanshi has been taken into custody in connection with the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. Raja, a businessman from Indore, had gone missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, and his body was discovered just days after he vanished.

Raja's remains were found on June 2, shortly after he and Sonam embarked on their honeymoon on May 20. What initially seemed like an accidental death quickly escalated into a murder investigation when a machete, believed to be the murder weapon, was uncovered.

The discovery of Raja's body triggered a widespread search for Sonam, who her family and in-laws initially feared had been kidnapped.

The couple had traveled from Indore in Madhya Pradesh to Shillong in Meghalaya, but by May 23, they were reported missing. After more than two weeks of searching, Sonam was located at a roadside eatery, or ‘dhaba,’ in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, which is over 1,200 kilometers away from where they were last seen.

According to police reports, Sonam allegedly confessed to killing her husband, and a man she was reportedly having an affair with, Raj Kushwaha, has also been arrested in connection with the case.

“The first person arrested was Akash Rajput, 19 years old, from Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh. The second was Vishal Singh Chauhan, 22 years old, from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The third was Raj Singh Khushwaha, 21 years old, also from Indore," Syiem told news agency PTI.

"Sonam Raghuvanshi is currently in police custody. This afternoon, we arrested Anand Kurmi, 23 years old, from Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh," the SP said.

Amitabh Yash, the Additional Director General of Law & Order in Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Sonam contacted her family to let them know she was at a dhaba near Ghazipur. They relayed this information to the Indore Police, who quickly got in touch with the UP Police. The Ghazipur Police then found Sonam at the dhaba. She was taken for a medical check-up at Sadar Hospital before being sent to the One Stop Center in Meghalaya.”

Sonam reached out to her family late Sunday night, and by 1 a.m. on Monday, police tracked her down to a roadside restaurant in Nandganj, Ghazipur.

Indore’s additional deputy police commissioner, Rajesh Dandotiya, revealed that Raj Kushwaha, 20, the man Sonam, 25, was involved with, allegedly plotted the murder on May 18, just a week after the couple's wedding, as reported by Hindustan Times. Raj Kushwaha is said to have hired Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kumar, and Akash Rajput to carry out the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, and all of them are now in custody.
