Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has given his support to amendments in some of the existing cricket rules by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which is the custodian of cricket laws.
Tendulkar has tweeted a video message from his Twitter handle with his comment saying, “Cricket is a beautiful sport. It allows us to challenge existing norms and help refine laws of the game. Some of the changes introduced by MCC are praiseworthy.”
In the message, he says that new rules have been introduced in cricket by the MCC committee and he is quite supportive of a couple of them.
“The first one being Mankading dismissal. I was always uncomfortable with that particular dismissal being called Mankaded. I am really happy that it has been changed to run out. It always should have been run out according to me. So this is one good news for all of us. I was not comfortable with it all, but that won't be the case anymore," Tendulkar said.
He added, "And the second one where the batter is dismissed, being caught, the new batter has to come and face the ball. The new batter takes the strike. It's absolutely fair because if a bowler has been successful in picking a wicket it's only fair that a bowler gets a chance to bowl to a new batter. This new rule is a good one and well done on that.”
He cited an instance and said, “Can you imagine, 5 runs to win, No 10 is batting, hit the ball up in the air, non-striker is a big hitter comes and faces the next ball. Bowler has actually picked a wicket on the 5th ball and the 6th ball the bowler would be bowling to a set batsman. I disagree with that.”
