Singapore wants people aged 40 to go back to University

Singapore wants people aged 40 to go back to University: Despite the fact that AI is still a matter of debate, Singapore seems to have figured out before most of the other countries that learning how to use it is a good idea. To remain relevant in the changing world, it wants people over 40 to upskill themselves.
As part of its National AI Strategy (NIAS) 2.0, Singapore will invest more than $1 billion over the next five years in AI computing, talent development, and industry development.
In order to refresh their skills, the government has launched a new subsidy scheme that will cover at least 90% of the cost of a full-time diploma course.
A member of Parliament, Tan Wu Meng, said that the new subsidy scheme would benefit both middle-aged and young workers.
Singaporeans' new subsidy scheme recognizes that, by the time they are 40, what they learned in school might have "changed, transformed, and replaced by a new world".
The combination of mid-career workers learning new skills alongside younger workers - an 18-year-old, person who works part time alongside someone who works full time - will also transform the education experience at our institutions of higher education, said Tan Wu Meng.
“Older workers bring life experience, life skills and living wisdom into the classroom. Even as they bring that into the classroom, they also learn new skills together with the younger students,” he added.
Over the next five years, Singapore will invest more than $1 billion in AI computing, talent, and industry development.
During his speech, the MP mentioned how AI technology is advancing faster than expected.
He said that he had expected the technology to take another two to three years. Instead, the technology took off faster than expected. OpenAI announced the Sora platform within ten months.
AI will revolutionize every aspect of our world...so we must accept it, the way the world will be, and look after, support, empower and uplift our people," he said.
