Sikkim Road Accident: Major road accident in Sikkim, 16 Indian Army soldiers lost their lives
According to the Indian Army, the truck was part of a convoy of three vehicles, which had left Chaten in the morning and were headed towards Thangu. "16 bravehearts of the Indian Army have lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving an Army truck on December 23 at Gema in North Sikkim," the Army said.

In a road accident in Sikkim on Friday, 16 army personnel lost their lives while four were injured. The accident occurred at Gema in North Sikkim when the army truck skidded down a steep slope at a dangerous turn. President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have expressed condolences on the accident.

The Home Minister said, 'Saddened to learn about the tragic road accident in Sikkim that claimed the lives of our brave army personnel. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. All possible help has been provided to the injured, may they get well soon. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that he is deeply saddened by the loss of lives of Indian Army soldiers in a road accident. He said, 'My condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The army further said, 'The vehicle skidded down a steep slope while negotiating a dangerous curve on the way to Jemaa. A rescue operation was immediately launched and four injured soldiers were airlifted. Unfortunately, three Junior Commissioned Officers and 13 soldiers succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. The Indian Army stands with the bereaved families in this hour of loss.
