The reason for his resignation was not immediately known. There are reports that his party Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) may make him a minister in the Prem Singh Tamang government.
Meanwhile, Sikkim's Urban Development and Housing Minister Arun Kumar Upreti also tendered his resignation on Friday. The MLA from Arithang constituency of East district submitted his resignation to Chief Minister PS Tamang.
It is being told that the cabinet expansion is going to happen soon in the state. That is why Das has resigned. Since then there has been speculation that he may be given a ministerial post. According to Raj Bhavan, the election of the new president will be held on August 22.
