Shivraj Patil clarified on the controversial statement on Lord Krishna, asked questions on the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi

Former Home Minister and veteran Congress leader Shivraj Patil has clarified on the controversial statement on Lord Krishna. Talking to ANI, Patil said that Jihad is done to kill those who tell the truth. If you kill Mahatma Gandhi, it is jihad. Patil dismissed the allegations that Lord Krishna taught the lesson of jihad. He asked the reporters who killed Mahatma Gandhi.

Shivraj Patil made the controversial remarks at a book launch event in the national capital on Thursday. This was strongly criticized by the BJP and termed this statement as hatred of Hindus and vote bank politics. At the release of the autobiography of senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Mohsina Kidwai, Patil had said that there is a lot of discussion on the jihad of Islam religion. Jihad means that if someone does not believe in what is right, he can be shown power. The concept of Jihad was not only in Islam, but also in the Bhagavad Gita and Christianity. In the Gita part of Mahabharata, Shri Krishna spoke to Arjuna on Jihad.

Talking on the former Home Minister's Christianity, he said that Christ had said that I have not come here to establish peace, but I have come here with a sword. He said that when no one understands even with the right intentions and doing the right things, the concept emerged that force can be used. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Shashi Tharoor, Digvijay Singh, Farooq Abdullah. Shinde further said on the same occasion that Mohsina Kidwai's book also talks about respecting all religions while following their religion. There is a need for peace in the world.  Shivraj Patil was the Union Home Minister in the Congress government from 2004 to 2008. He was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996.
