Shilpa Shetty & Raj Kundra Booked for Cheating Businessman: A case has been filed against Shilpa Shetty, her husband Raj Kundra and another person for allegedly cheating a Mumbai businessman of Rs 60 crore. The alleged fraud is related to a deal with their now defunct company Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.

The case against Shetty and Kundra has been filed by businessman Deepak Kothari who alleged that the couple conspired to cheat him of Rs 60 crore between 2015 and 2023.

The case was initially registered at Juhu police station under relevant sections of cheating and forgery. But since the amount involved was more than Rs 10 crore, the matter was transferred to EOW. The FIR was lodged after a preliminary enquiry into Kothari’s complaint.

Kothari, a Juhu resident and director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, said that one Rajesh Arya introduced him to Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra who were directors of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a home shopping and online retail platform. The couple had 87.6% of the company’s shares.

The accused asked for a loan of Rs 75 crore at 12% interest but later convinced him to invest the money as an “investment” to avoid higher taxation while promising monthly returns along with principal repayment.

Mr Kothari transferred the first instalment of about Rs 31.95 crore in April 2015. But the tax issue persisted and a second deal was signed in September. The businessman said he transferred Rs 28.54 crore more between July 2015 and March 2016.

In total he had transferred over Rs 60.48 crore for the deal besides paying Rs 3.19 lakh as stamp duty. Shilpa had also given him a personal guarantee in April 2016, claimed Mr Kothari. But months later in September she resigned as the company’s director.

Soon after an insolvency case of Rs 1.28 crore emerged against the company of which Mr Kothari was not aware. His repeated requests for his money fell on deaf ears.

Workwise Shilpa is currently judging the latest season of Super Dancer with Geeta Kapur and Marzi Pestonji. Raj was last seen in Amazon Prime Video’s reality show, The Traitors season 1.
