Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on a four-day visit to India. On Tuesday, Sheikh Hasina was accorded a rousing welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this, PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were present. PM Modi meets Sheikh Hasina at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
After a warm welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina said that India is our friend. Whenever I come to India, it is a matter of happiness for me. Especially because we always remember India's contribution during our liberation struggle. We have friendly relations, we are cooperating with each other.
She said that our main focus is to eradicate poverty and develop the economy. With all these issues I feel that our two countries work together so that people can have a better life not only in India and Bangladesh but across South Asia.
Before this, many important agreements have been signed between India and Bangladesh under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina. In these, concrete results have been achieved in many areas including land and sea border demarcation, security, connectivity, development cooperation, cultural exchange, power and energy, trade and commerce, economy, defence.
There can be special discussion on these issues between the two countries. At the same time, the agenda included between the two countries in this visit includes promoting defense cooperation, expanding regional connectivity initiatives and establishing stability in South Asia. India and Bangladesh have sought to create a model for regional cooperation besides reviving several connectivity initiatives in the past few years. Akhaura-Agartala rail link will reopen soon. Also, it is anticipated that Agartala and Chittagong will be connected by air in a few weeks.
