The Country is remembering Guru Tegh Bahadur on December 19 for his sacrifices for the welfare of the people of this country.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recalled Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's supreme sacrifice and paid tributes to him.
PM Modi took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life epitomised courage and compassion.”
“On his Shaheedi Diwas, I bow to the great Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and recall his vision for a just and inclusive society," He added.
Guru Tegh Bahadur was the ninth Guru of the Sikh religion. According to English Calendar, on November 24 in 1675, Mughal emperor Aurangzeb captured and beheaded him.
Though every year November 24 was marked as Shaheedi Diwas yet of late the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) decided it to be followed according to Nanakshahi Calendar.
According to Nanakshahi Calendar, it falls on December 19 in 2020.
SGPC manages Sikh religious institutions in three states Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, and one union territory, Chandigarh.
According to historical documents, Mughal emperor Aurangzeb wanted to convert people of the Hindu religion to Muslims which Guru Teg Bahadur had opposed.
He was captured along with his followers. His followers were even tortured and burnt alive before him but he didn’t change his decision and refused to follow the emperor’s order.
Finally, Aurangzeb beheaded him. His supreme sacrifice is remembered all over the world for the welfare of people.
Followers of the Sikh religion and others remember him on this day by offering prayers in Gurudwaras in India all over the world.
