Serum Institute's Covovax gets emergency approval nod from WHO
The World Health Organisation announced that it had granted emergency approval to India's COVID-19 vaccine Covovax. The vaccine is produced by the Serum Institute of India under licence from Novavax.
The World Health Organisation announced that it had granted emergency approval to India's COVID-19 vaccine Covovax. The vaccine is produced by the Serum Institute of India under licence from Novavax.
This could be seen as another gain in India's vaccine manufacturing sector. With this new approval, WHO is expanding the spectrum of vaccines that are allowed for emergency usage. This would hopefully boom the number of vaccinated persons across globe which is the need of the hour in the wake of exponential rise of the Omnicron cases.
However, as of now, Covovax is still awaiting emergency use authorization from India's drug regulator DCGI.
