Sehwag slams CSK’s tactics vs SRH, calls Ravindra Jadeja’s strike rate ‘useless’
Virender Sehwag minced no words in expressing his displeasure regarding CSK's senior batters for an underwhelming batting performance that resulted in yet another loss during IPL 2025.

Sehwag slams CSK’s tactics vs SRH: He made sure the CSK batters were in for another bashing after yet another poor show at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sehwag specifically questioned how the Ravindra Jadeja's status as an international player would allow him to be used by the side at number four.
Speaking on the post-match show of Cricbuzz, Sehwag didn't mince words about the performance of CSK as he said: “Like I was saying, after half the tournament I felt like going home, and even CSK feels that way. Half the batters are asking when they will be able to go home, let this tournament come to an end.”
In particular, Sehwag questioned the logic of batting at number four with an all-rounder like Ravindra Jadeja, who made a rather meek 21(17). Indeed, the norm this season has been for the strike rate to collapse in the middle overs.
“At least one person should take some responsibility, Brevis was playing that role but even he got out playing a shot,” said Sehwag. “If Jadeja is coming up the order, his strike-rate is useless, but at the very least stick around till the 15th-18th over, the team can play around him.”
Sehwag questions CSK batting approach
Chennai limped into 154 all-out, with Ayush Mhatre (30) and Dewald Brevis (42) the only two composing innings upon whom half the batting could lay claim. But SRH's bowlers had managed to turn regular overs into wicket-taking commodities through the innings which kept the ball from going out of control, with Harshal Patel continuing his strong Chepauk record with a four-fer.
After Brevis' dismissal, CSK was struggling at 114-5 and seven overs left. However, none of the lower order could get going at all. Sehwag questioned whether this Sri Lanka series could mark the end of the road for CSK as they are looking to bat too fast at this time during a bad patch for the entire team.

“Shivam Dube as well, out quickly today. There’s no batter who could even stick around,” said Sehwag. “Constantly wickets were falling. According to me, your team isn’t even scoring runs, and on top of that you’re thinking let’s play at a 200 strike-rate. Can’t play like that, at least get to 170-180 on the board.”
After CSK had set SRH a target of 155, at one point it looked as if the visiting side was in trouble. Sadly, the cool and composed sixth-wicket stand of Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy saw SRH home with time to spare, gaining a couple of places in the table.
