Section 144 imposed in Srirangapatna city due to mosque dispute

Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in Srirangapatna town of Mandya district of Karnataka. This will be applicable from 6 am to 6 pm on Saturday. This step has been taken in view of today's call of 'Srirangapatna Chalo' by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

Deputy commissioner Ashwathi S said that the weekly market which usually takes place on every Saturday will not be held today. He said that today a ban has been imposed on the sale of liquor in the 5 km range of Srirangapatna.

The deputy commissioner said, 'Today the Masjid road has been closed. People are not allowed to enter the mosque. CCTV cameras have been installed to deal with any untoward incident. A special team has been formed to keep an eye on suspicious activities.

In fact, like the Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi, a dispute has started regarding the Jamia Masjid at Srirangapatna in Mandya district. Hindu organizations claim that the mosque has been built on the ruins of a Hanuman temple. He also talked about approaching the court in this matter. In this regard, Hindu organizations also submitted a memorandum to Mandya Deputy Commissioner Ashwathi S and demanded a survey of the mosque.

Jamia Masjid is also known as Masjid-e-Ala. It is located inside the Srirangapatna Fort. Built in 1786-87, this mosque has two minarets, which are built on a high platform. A balini separates each step of the tower. This mosque is two storeyed. It has no dome. This mosque is administered by the Bangalore Circle of the Archaeological Survey of India.
