Sania Mirza's Grand Slam career ends after losing the final of Australian Open
Rod Laver Arena has been really special in my life. I couldn't have thought of a better place to end my career. I never thought I'd be able to play in a Grand Slam final in front of my kid, so it's really special for me to have my 4-year-old kid here, my parents.

India's tennis star Sania Mirza ended her Grand Slam career with six titles. Sania had a great chance to win her seventh Grand Slam title but she squandered the chance. On Friday, the pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna had to face defeat in the mixed doubles final of Australian Open. With this defeat, Sania Mirza's Grand Slam career came to an end.
One of the most popular mixed doubles pairs, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna went down 6-7(2) 2-6 in the final to the Brazilian team of Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos. Sania has won a total of six titles in the Grand Slam so far. Of these, three have won in women's doubles and three in mixed doubles. Sania's partner Rohan Bopanna has once won the French Open title in mixed doubles.
Sania Mirza said after the match that I am still going to play a few more tournaments, but my professional career started in Melbourne in 2005, when I played against Serena Williams in the third round at the age of 18. I have been fortunate to come here time and again, win some tournaments here and play some great finals. Rod Laver Arena has been really special in my life. I couldn't have thought of a better place to end my career. I never thought I'd be able to play in a Grand Slam final in front of my kid, so it's really special for me to have my 4-year-old kid here, my parents.
Sania, who was playing her last major event as a six-time Grand Slam champion, had announced earlier this month that she would retire from professional tennis at the Dubai Tennis Championships, which is a WTA 1000 event and begins on February 19. In the year 2009, he won his first title.
“My professional career started in Melbourne… I couldn’t think of a better arena to finish my [Grand Slam] career at.”
