Sanctions imposed against Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders

The Treasury Department announced on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov were sanctioned for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The US Treasury Department has imposed this sanction in response to Russia's 'unreasonable, unprovoked and pre-mediated' invasion of Ukraine.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement: "The brutal and unprovoked attack on the people of Ukraine continues to cost the Russian Federation and President Putin." As President Biden said yesterday, Putin makes every good faith effort by the United States and our allies and partners to address our mutual security concerns through dialogue to avoid unnecessary conflict and avert human suffering.
