After Russia's deadly attack, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Russian army has 'destroyed' the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian military also said on Saturday that Russia had launched missile, rocket and airstrikes on several parts of the country, which it is trying to conquer despite months of resistance. In the nine-and-a-half-month war, Russia's attention has now shifted to four provinces of Ukraine, which Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed in September.

Together these provinces fall under the Donbas region, an industrial region bordering the Russian Federation. Putin's focus since the beginning of the war has been on the region where separatists have been fighting since 2014. “Bakhmut, Soledar, Maryinka, Kremina,” Zelensky said in his video released overnight.
