Russia to Decide ‘How and When’ to Respond to Ukraine’s Operation Spider’s Web: Kremlin

Russia to Decide ‘How and When’ to Respond to Ukraine’s Operation Spider’s Web: Just a day after the 75-minute long call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia will decide the "how and when" of its plan to retaliate against Ukraine's missile strike on Russian airbases.

Last week, Ukraine exposed the first phase of "Operation Spider's Web," where Ukraine conducted a significant drone attack against Russia. Specifically, the operation targeted military airbases and aircraft located in Russia.

“The call lasted approximately one hour and 15 minutes. We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides. It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace. President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” Trump wrote on social media.

During the call between Trump and Putin on Wednesday, the Russian leader confirmed Moscow's plans to respond to Ukraine's missile.

Confirming Moscow's plans, AFP reported that the Kremlin said the attack will be executed "as and when our military believes it appropriate to do so."

What was Ukraine's Operation Spider's Web?

Operation Spider's Web was a clandestine drone attack delivered by Ukraine as part of its war with Russia. The drone swarm attack on June 1 was conducted by the Ukrainian Security Service, which is the main intelligence agency of Ukraine.

The drones that were launched all over Russia attacked Russian military airbases and aircraft. The SBU stated that they destroyed more than 40 Russian bomber aircraft, which are used "on a regular basis" in strikes against Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated it took the Ukrainians 18 months and nine days to plan and execute the operation.

Russia strikes Ukraine

Just hours after the Trump-Putin phone call, Russian strikes in Ukraine killed at least five people.

According to an AP report, six Russian drones hit a residential area in the Ukrainian city of Pyluky, killing a total of five people, including a one-year old child.

According to Zelenskyy, there were a total of 103 drones and one ballistic missile targeted multiple regions in Ukraine overnight; Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odessa, Sumy, Chernihiv, Dnipro and Kherson.
