Poland which is supposed to play against Russia in Moscow on March 24 has refused to participate in the game.
Polish FA president Cezary Kulesza tweeted, “Today's FIFA decision is totally unacceptable. We are not interested in participating in this game of appearances. Our stance remains intact: Polish National Team will NOT PLAY with Russia, no matter what the name of the team is."
Winners of the Poland-Russia clash are supposed to play against Sweden and the Czech Republic five days later.
However, both countries have made it clear that they will not play against Russia. "We have previously made it known that we do not want to face Russia under these circumstances (following the invasion) and this remains the case until further notice," Swedish FA president Karl-Erik Nilsson said.
The Czech FA also took a similar stand as it said, "There will be no change in the Czech national team's standpoint."
Amidst calls for boycott, French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet demanded a complete ban on Russia from playing in FIFA World Cup.
However, FIFA has released a statement, in which it said, it has taken good note of the positions expressed via social media by the Polish Football Association, the Football Association of the Czech Republic and the Swedish Football Association.
"FIFA will remain in close contact to seek to find appropriate and acceptable solutions together," it said.
