Rising Covid cases in China worrying, but Indians need not panic: Adar Poonawalla
Raising concern on the rising COVID-19 cases in neighboring China, SII CEO Adar Poonawala asked the people not to panic because of India's "excellent vaccination coverage and track record"
New Delhi: Expressing concern over the spread of coronavirus in neighboring China and the rising number of COVID-19 cases, Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla on Wednesday said India's 'excellent vaccination coverage and a track record' In view of this, the public does not need to panic about the spread of this epidemic. Along with this, he also urged the people to follow the guidelines set by the Government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
In a post on the micro-blogging website Twitter, Adar Poonawalla wrote, "The news of rising COVID cases coming out of China is concerning, we need not panic given our excellent vaccination coverage and track record. We must continue to trust and follow the guidelines set by the Government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare."
Adar Poonawalla is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Serum Institute of India, which manufactures the Kovid-19 vaccine Covishield.
According to 'The Hong Kong Post', people in China are telling about countless cases of Kovid-19 infection around them, but the official figure is being told only around 2,000 cases per day.
Expressing concern over the sudden spurt of COVID-19 cases in China, former Indian diplomat K.P. Fabian said on Tuesday, "More than 60 percent of China's population and 10 percent of the world's population are expected to be vulnerable to Kovid, and there could be millions of deaths."
