Rinku Singh Retained by KKR for Rs 13 Crore: Kolkata Knight Riders retained Rinku Singh for 13 crore. The big hitter whose 5 sixes against Yash Dayal in IPL 2023 made him an international star was the top retain in the team. After the retentions were announced, several reports and social media users are saying that Rinku has bought a luxurious bungalow in The Golden Estate in Ozone City, Aligarh. According to some, it’s a 500 sq yard house and costs 3.5 crore.
IPL winning captain Shreyas Iyer has been released after winning the title for KKR this year, their first in a decade and overall third. Many are saying his batting stats of 351 runs in 14 innings with 2 fifties at a strike rate of 146.86 is the reason behind his release. But the other half of the story is KKR top order was in form and didn’t leave much for the middle order to do. His recurring fitness issues which made him miss 2023 season also could be the reason.

Whatever be the reason, one thing is sure, Iyer is up there with Adam Gilchrist (released by Deccan Chargers in 2011 after title win in 2009, semifinal finish in 2010), David Warner (released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of 2022 season despite 2016 title win and multiple playoff finishes) as one of the most unlucky captains in IPL.
Franchises have been very bold this time around, releasing experienced, household Indian/overseas names and trusting several Indian uncapped/inexperienced players.
Out of 46 players retained across all franchises, 36 are Indians. Out of these 36, 10 are uncapped Indian stars. These are Abhishek Porel, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Shashank Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Yash Dayal.

Also out of other 24 capped Indians, 13 have played less than 30 international matches and 8 have played 10 or less international games for India. Of these 24 capped players, no one has all format experience for India and only 2 have Test cricket experience, Dhruv Jurel and Rajat Patidar.
Interestingly, it’s Jurel who has just played international matches for India who has got the biggest increase, from 20 lakh to 14 crore.
