Relief to Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan : Supreme Court has given exemption from arrest for the time being
It said, "Ranjan hosted an event on 'Zee News' on July 1, 2022. The news show inadvertently misrepresented some of the quotes and the error was quickly corrected. An unconditional apology was made by the petitioner and Zee News and the news show was withdrawn even before any FIR and complaint was registered.
After distorting the statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan got relief from the court on Friday. At present, the Supreme Court has exempted him from arrest. Actually, cases have been registered against the anchor in different districts of different states including Jaipur, Chhattisgarh. In such a situation, the police are trying to arrest him.
Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan had filed a petition in the Supreme Court amid the continuous FIR against him, which was heard today. During this, Rohit's lawyer Siddharth Luthra said that in the same case, apart from UP, an FIR has also been registered in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. On this the judge said that we are issuing notice in the complete matter. At present, the police of any state should not arrest him in this case.
In the midst of a controversy that started after running the wrong news, the petition filed by the anchor in the Supreme Court said, "The present writ petition is being filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, which deals with almost identical criminal complaints." Cancellation/addition request has been made. FIRs have been registered against the petitioner across the country. The petitioner has requested for protection from punitive action during the pendency of the present petition.
