Delhi Chief Minister and Leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal has squarely accused the Bhartiya Janata Party of the violence which ensued on Republic Day at the Red Fort in Delhi. Even though many have been saying this but much credence can now be given after it was openly said by a constitutional authority in a public meeting.
While addressing a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Meerut on Sunday the Delhi CM said, "The entire Red Fort incident was planned by them (BJP). Many people told me that they were deliberately shown wrong path as they didn't know streets of Delhi. Those who hoisted flag were their (BJP) workers." He went on to even slam the Central government leadership of filing cases against farmers for carrying out "anti-national activities."
Mocking those in power, he added, "Even Britishers did not have this courage. They call our farmers terrorists, even Britishers did not oppress our farmers to this extent, they did not fix nails on the ground. This government has left behind the Britishers."
The AAP chief also claimed that this government wanted to take away farmer's lands and give them to 3-4 capitalists. "Centre's three farm laws are death warrant for farmers. The government wants to take away their lands and give them to 3-4 capitalists. Farmers will become labourers in their own fields, that is why it's do or die situation for farmers."
He even called top BJP leaders, including Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, liars over their claims on minimum support price (MSP). He mocked Yogi enquiring - where in Uttar Pradesh MSP was paid.
This was in response to PM Modi’s "MSP was there. MSP is there. MSP will remain in the future."
"Their minister keeps saying that MSP was there and will remain. But you tell me if farmers get MSP in any of the mandis. They lie day and night. Yogi Adityanath lies."
He took the instance of UP's sugarcane farmers to drive home his point saying they had not been getting their dues up to two years. The cumulative backlog was Rs18,000 crore. He sought to know what Mr Adityanath's helplessness was in not fixing the sugar-mill owners' problem.
"Yogi Adityanath, shame on your government if you are incapable of ensuring payments sugarcane farmers," Mr Kejriwal said.
He said the problems can be fixed only if the government has the right intent and that funds would not the issue then. He cited his own government's example in Delhi with regards to power supply and bills in the city.
"If you elect a government with the right intent, farmers would get their payment even before they reach home after depositing their produce in the mills," he said.
The Delhi Chief Minister also took up the issue of galloping fuel prices, reiterating that a government with the right intent could bring down petrol and diesel rates.
"I would like to say at the end that this is a national movement, a pure movement. I'm not doing any favours...I'll tell you that the government will ultimately have to bow before you," he told the Mahapanchayat.
