RCB Victory Parade Turns Chaotic: Stampede Breaks Out Near Chinnaswamy Stadium Two People Killed
RCB fans wreaked havoc in Bengaluru as thousands ran onto the stadium after the IPL victory, causing the police to interfere.

RCB Victory Parade Turns Chaotic: Bengaluru witnessed chaos on Tuesday evening, as thousands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) supporters encircled M. Chinnaswamy Stadium keen to see the team who had just returned from Ahmedabad after their IPL trophy win; their first after an 18 year wait. The stampede like situation was such an overwhelming mob at numerous entry points that, police had to control them with a lathi-charge as they surged forward. One person died on the way to the hospital after being injured in the stampede, while the police confirmed another death on the grounds.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) convened a special felicitation inside the stadium honouring the RCB squad, as they arrived from Ahmedabad. An unprecedented number of fans turned up to support their team, many even without entry passes, creating a volatile environment. Many eyewitness accounts recounted people scaling the stadium walls and fencing as they attempted to get inside to see the players; in fact a few burning fans have also been admitted to hospital.

Police continuously appealed for people to remain calm and disperse, reminding fans that they could not enter unlawfully or engage in unsafe activity. After several appeals and desperate attempts to calm the crowd, officers were eventually forced to apply some pressure by way of a mild lathi-charge.
Local news reported some minor crush injuries, but so far none of a serious nature have been reported as of Tuesday evening.
In conjunction with the chaos around the city, the Bengaluru Metro saw a record number of footfall. The trains on the Purple Line, at stations including SV Road, Indiranagar, Halasuru, and Trinity, were seriously overcrowded. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation had to make multiple announcements reminding people not to board full trains. One alert read: “Attention passengers: Please do not board the train. Train is overcrowded. Don’t delay the train. Stay away from doors.”
The metro mess, combined with the blocked thoroughfares and diverted traffic in central Bengaluru, made life miserable for individuals travelling and emergency service vehicles navigating the area. Social media has been full of clips of fans packing metro stations and spilling into nearby streets, and expressions of excitement have even led to comments that likened the scenes to festivals or politically charged processions.
While the RCB is home and undoubtedly sparking a massive celebration for the city, Tuesday demonstrates the need for better crowd control and coordination for the public. Authorities have faced backlash for underestimating the anticipation and attendees, and the actions taken to protect the public's safety were questionable, especially after cancelling the open-top bus parade earlier in the day.
