Ranbir Kapoor Reveals Rishi Kapoor’s Strict Budget: ‘It Was Like $2 for Lunch

Ranbir Kapoor Reveals Rishi Kapoor’s Strict Budget: Ranbir Kapoor shared his insights about his life before entering Bollywood and becoming a star. He belongs to the Kapoor family, which is significant in the Bollywood industry.
In a recent podcast with Nikhil Kamath, he confronts how his late father Rishi Kapoor always kept him on a strict budget while studying abroad, this made a huge impact on his personality.
After completing his college in Mumbai, he went to New York for his higher education and studied at The School of Visual Arts. In the meantime, he enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute to study method acting.

Despite belonging to a wealthy and privileged family, he was put on a very strict budget. "By then, I was very eager to come back and start work. I felt like I had gotten the experience of America. It was not really the college experience but the exposure of talking to people from all over the world and living alone.”
“My father had kept me on a very tight budget. Of course, when I say tight budget, I am still coming from a privileged background, but it was enough to have a McDonald’s dollar menu meal for lunch and dinner.”
“So, it was like $2 for lunch and $2 for dinner. It was as strict as that, even though I come from a privileged background," said Ranbir on Nikhil Kamath's podcast.
Ranbir further revealed that he never clarified why he put him on a strict budget, he said, “He never addressed this, but I think he wanted me to live like a student and not a superstar’s son. Maybe it was to teach the value of money.”
Even after returning to Mumbai, he relied on public transport while he was assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black. “My father wanted to school me that this is not life, you are too moisturised, you need to see what hardship is,” he added.
During the podcast, he shared, that when he was in his college days in Mumbai, where he started smoking, "HR College reminds me of smoking because that was the first time I bought a packet of cigarettes.”
“You smoke with your friends outside the college and you feel grown up. It’s the first time you are wearing your own clothes and not a school uniform.”

Currently, Ranbir is shooting the most awaited film, Ramayana, as he will be playing the lead role of Ram with the co-actress Sai Pallavi playing the role of Sita in the movie.
The film was directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namita Malhotra. As per reports, Yash star of KGF will play Ravan's role in the movie. The film's release date has not been announced.
Some of his upcoming movies include Animal Park, Ramayana, Love & War, and Brahmastra - Part Two: Dev.
