New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Election 2022: Rajya Sabha elections are going to be held on 10 June i.e. today. At the same time, candidates have been elected unopposed in 41 out of 57 seats in 15 states. Whereas elections will be held for 16 seats in Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Karnataka today. Because the number of candidates in these states is more than the seats in the elections.

Of the 41 candidates elected unopposed, 14 are from the BJP, four each from the Congress and the YSR Congress; Three each from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Biju Janata Dal; Aam Aadmi Party, RJD, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, two each from AIADMK, one each from JMM, JD(U), SP and RLD and independent Kapil Sibal.

Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, out of the 11 declared candidates, eight are from the BJP and one each from the Samajwadi Party and RLD, and Sibal is an independent. The winning leaders of the state include Jayant Chaudhary (RLD), Javed Ali Khan (SP), Darshan Singh, Babu Ram Nishad, Mithilesh Kumar, Radha Mohan Dal Aggarwal, K. Laxman, Laxmikant Bajpai, Surendra Singh Nagar, Sangeeta Yadav (all BJP) are involved.

Tamil Nadu

The ruling DMK's S Kalyanasundaram, R Girirajan, and KRN Rajesh Kumar, AIADMK's CV Shanmugam, and R Dharma and Congress's Chidambaram have emerged victorious from Tamil Nadu. With Chidambaram's election, the Congress party will have a member from Tamil Nadu in the Rajya Sabha after a long gap. Chidambaram was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra in 2016 and his term ends on July 4.

Bihar

All five candidates from Bihar were elected unopposed, including Misa Bharti and Fayaz Ahmed (RJD), Satish Chandra Dubey, Shambhu Sharan Patel (BJP), and Khiru Mahto (JDU). RJD chief Lalu Prasad's eldest daughter Bharti and Dubey have been elected to the Rajya Sabha for the second time in a row.

Andra Pradesh

V Vijayasai Reddy, Bida Mastan Rao, R Krishnaiah, and S Niranjan Reddy of the ruling YSR Congress from Andhra Pradesh were also elected unopposed. With this victory, the strength of the YSRC has now increased to nine in the Rajya Sabha, out of the 11 Rajya Sabha seats in the state, one each with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the BJP.

Punjab

In Punjab, AAP candidate-eminent environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal and entrepreneur-social activist Vikramjit Singh Sahni were declared the winners. The terms of Ambika Soni (Congress) and Balwinder Singh Bhundar (Shiromani Akali Dal) from Punjab are ending on July 4.

Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh, both the candidates of the ruling Congress, Shukla and Ranjeet Ranjan have been elected unopposed. The opposition BJP did not field its candidate in view of its low strength in the state assembly.

Uttarakhand

BJP candidate Kalpana Saini was also elected unopposed and will fill the seat in the Upper House after Congress's Pradeep Tamta's term ends on July 4.
